Los Angeles Chargers general manager Tom Telesco revealed some interesting details on the team's thoughts heading into the NFL Draft and their selection of Justin Herbert.

On an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Telesco said they never believed the rumors that the Miami Dolphins could move up to select an offensive tackle.

“Every rumor I heard, I went through my head of how would we handle this if this happened,” Telesco told Pat McAfee. “Now, the whole, Miami taking a tackle at 3, maybe they really were, I just didn’t believe that one.”

Telesco also revealed that the Chargers were always going to take a quarterback at number six if one of the big three were still there. If the Dolphins would have ended up going Herbert, the Chargers would have gone with Tua Tagovailoa:

“We felt great about all three quarterbacks who went in the Top 6,” Telesco said. “If you’re going to pick this high and there’s a potential franchise quarterback, you have to take him.”

The one big question now for Herbert and the Chargers is when the team will let him on the field. Telesco had said previously the one thing that really stands out about Herbert is just how big he is:

“He's much bigger—and that was the one thing I noticed when I saw him live this past year was just how big he is,” Telesco said via Bleacher Report. “He's 6'6″, 240. Very athletic, very fast for a taller quarterback. He's tough. He's highly competitive. The arm strength is all there.”

The Chargers hope the right quarterback fell to him and the Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals made the wrong selection.
