Chargers: Predicting who LA will select with the No. 6 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft

The Los Angeles Chargers hold the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and they are going to have a lot of great options on who to pick.

With everything happening with the coronavirus leading up to the draft, there is even more uncertainty about who teams might be going after or wanting to target. The Chargers have some big holes to fill that would make sense at sixth overall, including defensive tackle, offensive guard, and linebacker.

It would make sense if a player from any of those positions was selected, but the team needs a franchise quarterback, and they will take him at sixth overall. Joe Burrow is going to be gone, and signs are pointing towards Tua Tagovailoa being gone too.

Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert is one of the best quarterbacks in the draft class, and he will have a great career with the Chargers.

Why take a quarterback now?

With Phillip Rivers gone, it’s important the Chargers select a quarterback and waiting another year doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. The 2021 quarterback class is also strong, but the best quarterbacks are going to be selected too high, and there is no guarantee they will have a high pick next season.

Tyrod Taylor is a solid quarterback, and if he is the starting quarterback for the 2020 season, it’s hard to imagine the team would only win three or four games.

Winning six, seven, or eight games makes a lot more sense, and that might put them out of the running for the top couple quarterbacks.

The team can draft Herbert and Taylor could still be the quarterback for the 2020 season, and when the team wins six or seven games, they still have their quarterback of the future.

Why Herbert is the right choice for the Chargers?

Just looking at Herbert, he looks like the prototypical quarterback that NFL teams love. He is 6-6 and has the mobility and arm talent that is going to be a problem for opposing teams. He does a great job of fitting the ball into tight windows and should be in the league for a very long time.

Everyone loves Tua and Burrow, but there was a time that Herbert was expected by many to be the No. 1 overall pick, and it’s not like his play dropped off.

Herbert is a guy who would go No. 1 overall many years and the Chargers have a chance to get him with the sixth pick.

If he is available on the board, the Chargers need to make the right call and take Herbert.
