The Los Angeles Chargers may have fallen in love with Justin Herbert. But one person in the organization is extremely in favor of Tyrod Taylor.

According to Peter King of NBC Sports, the Chargers — named general manager Tom Telesco — is high on Oregon's Herbert. The top-tier quarterback is projected to go within the first few selections. And he's drumming up plenty of interest among the top-picking teams, including the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots.

However, head coach Anthony Lynn is “bullish” on quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Not just for this season — but for the future:

“A quarterback or long-term tackle makes the most sense; a GM friend of Telesco’s thinks he’s very high on Justin Herbert. But head coach Anthony Lynn is legitimately bullish on Tyrod Taylor, and maybe for more than one year. Talked to Telesco on my podcast this week, and he said the final board gets made, virtually, this week by video conference.”

The Chargers' confidence in Taylor moving forward is an interesting one. The 30-year-old quarterback hasn't served as a starter since the 2017 season when he led the Buffalo Bills to the playoffs. That was certainly impressive, but he was traded by Buffalo following that campaign.

The veteran QB then lost his starting job to then-rookie Baker Mayfield with the Cleveland Browns in 2018. He then served as a backup to Philip Rivers in Los Angeles last season. In fact, he threw just six passes last season.

One thing that Taylor definitely excels at is taking care of the football. Across his three seasons as a starter in Buffalo, Taylor threw just 16 interceptions. His interception rate led the NFL in 2017 and has ranked in the top eight in all three seasons as a starter.

With that being said, Herbert could be the Chargers' franchise quarterback for the next 15 years. Why the Chargers are so “bullish” on a quarterback who hasn't been a starter in the past couple of seasons is a mystery.

But we'll soon find out where Los Angeles' allegiance truly lies when the 2020 NFL Draft takes place.
