Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn was expected by many to be replaced after a subpar campaign heading into the 2021 NFL season. However, his potential firing won't happen just yet as he is reportedly endeared by the ownership which could help him keep the job for next season.

Via Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports:

“League sources said the Spanos family holds head coach Anthony Lynn in very high regard, and believe he could very well be back for a fifth season with the club.”

The Chargers have been involved in a handful of tightly-contested games which could've gone either way. However, Lynn and his team failed to execute in crunch time which led them to be deprived of running away with close victories.

Quarterback Justin Herbert serves as a bright spot for the team amid their struggles this season. After starting the season as the backup gunslinger, Herbert eventually found himself the new QB1 in Los Angeles as the season progressed.

Although he isn't as polished as the other veteran quarterbacks in the league, Herbert has successfully made a good account of himself with his impressive showing as of late. The former Oregon standout already amassed 4,034 yards on 564 attempts and 28 touchdowns through 14 games played this season.

His rapid development eventually made Lynn look good in his position as the team's head coach. Not to mention that the Chargers are peaking in the latter stages of the season after they have won three-straight games heading to Week 17 en route to a 6-9 record.

Although they are already out of playoff contention, a good showing against the Kansas City Chiefs for the final game of the regular season will help Anthony Lynn keep his job for another year and allow the team to gain momentum heading to the 2021 NFL season.
