It was a great move by Ekeler to make the most out of the quick out he was running. The defense was set by the time they got to the running back, but he used his athleticism to move the chains and win another set of downs for the Chargers.
Ekeler is likely to have a long run as the teamās starting running back as Melvin Gordon hasnāt found an acceptable deal with the front office. If he continues to play this way throughout the game, his stock within the team will definitely rise.
However, this isnāt the first time Ekeler has impressed the team. He has been doing fantastic work for the Chargers since the preseason. His quality runs convinced the coaching staff that he is worth giving some carries.
The 24-year-old is entering his third NFL season with the Chargers. He has only recorded 814 yards on 153 carries, but the amount of touches he got in his second year is significantly larger compared to his year one. His receiving numbers also got a slight boost.
With the way things are going for Ekeler, he can start to make his case as the teamās official starter.
Considering how he finished his first game of the season, he should get the starting nod moving forward.
