Charles Barkley on Monday Night Football? That was very nearly a possibility, according to the Round Mound of Rebound.

The Hall of Fame NBA forward casually said he was offered some kind of role for Monday Night Football during an appearance on The Jim Brockmire Podcast.

Barkley dropped the gem during a conversation about Twitter commentators. He said he would never dare to speak about something outside his area of expertise (basketball). As such, he apparently declined.

Warning, you might want to use earbuds if you're at work:

Chuck will stick to his work at Inside The NBA, though a number of current players wish he would hold his tongue more often in that arena, as well.

Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant is one of the players who has chastised Charles Barkley for past comments. In fact, Barkley played a prominent role in KD's infamous direct messages sent to actor and comedian Michael Rapaport.

Rapaport had previously criticized Durant's interview following a season-opening win over the Golden State Warriors, during which KD elected to give Barkley a single one-word answer. Barkley would later say he was confused at the whole situation.

Durant lashed out at Rapaport, saying Barkley did not need a bodyguard before following with a number of vulgar and homophobic messages.

Barkley's TNT platform and penchant for speaking his mind has occasionally made him something of a lightning rod for controversy. But he likely feels he is qualified given his basketball pedigree.

Chuck alluded to not wanting to sound like a Twitter commentator when it comes to football, and thus refused to join the MNF booth.

It undoubtedly would have made for great entertainment, though.
