In today's NBA, fans have been accustomed to seeing some of the league's stars joining forces and creating a “superteam.” This gives them a bigger chance of winning a championship as they have more weapons that will make it difficult for their opponents to beat them.

League great and current Inside the NBA co-host Charles Barkley recently appeared on the Cowlishaw & Dennis Show on KESN-FM 103.3 (ESPN Dallas), and talked about the respect he has for Dallas Mavericks star forward Dirk Nowitzki for staying with his team and winning a championship back in 2011. He gave credit to him for not “cheating” his way to a title and hinted that he prefers his title run than any of the superteams' these days.

“One of the reasons I respect Dirk Nowitzki, can you imagine if Dirk Nowitzki had left the Mavs and kind of cheated his way to a championship? What you people would be saying about him in Dallas? But he hung in there, Mark (Cuban) and Don Nelson put a team together and they won it. And that's better on your resume than calling all your friends and saying, ‘Hey, let's get together and dominate the NBA.' You have to factor that in. Nobody wants to do that anymore.”

Despite the odds stacked against them and facing the Miami Heat with their “Big 3” of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, Nowitzki and the Mavs were able to come out victorious and won their first championship in team history.

Now already 38-years-old and nearing the end of his stellar career, the German international is one of only a few players who have spent their entire NBA campaign with a single franchise. He is considered a future Hall-of-Famer and will go down as one of the best to ever play the game once he decides to hang his sneakers for good.
