Rapper Fat Joe appeared on ESPN’s highly questionable on Friday afternoon in what ended up to be one of the more interesting interviews the show has probably ever had.

During the interview, Fat Joe is questioned on who Biggie Smalls’ song “I got a story to tell” is actually about. Rather than dodge the question or say he had some ideas, as most previous interviewees had done, Fat Joe actually gave an answer. According to Fat Joe, the song is in reference to former Knicks‘ player, Anthony Mason.

While many fans and analysts were both surprised that Fat Joe was willing to reveal the secret and excited to finally get an answer on the question, not everyone was happy about Fat Joe’s comments. Charles Oakley being one of those people.

“I think it's … disrespectful,” Oakley told TMZ Sports Friday. “I know Fat Joe, nice guy, but I played with Mason and I always got his back. Biggie ain't here to tell the real truth.”

It’s a fair point and even Fat Joe admitted at one point that his answer was just based on the rumors going within the rap community around the time the song was released.

“I gotta roll with Mase,” Oakley added. “He didn't ever tell me about it and we was real tight.”

“Definitely disrespectful. You don't talk about a guy after he's deceased.”

Despite Oakley’s dislike for Fate Joe’s comments, Diddy verified Fat Joe’s comments as true.

That said, Fat Joe mentioned in the interview that rappers have a tendency to stretch the truth and create stories when they write their songs. Whether the song is actually about Mason or not, we may never truly know.
