Gary Neville has put Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel on the spot after the team suffered its first loss of the season to Manchester City.

Chelsea terribly failed on the weekend’s match against Manchester City as the team didn’t manage to have a single shot on target all game.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel tried to emulate the strategy he earlier used against Tottenham and appointed three central midfielders, forming a set-up that saw Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner teaming-up together in the front.

Kai Havertz, on the other hand, checked in to replace N’Golo Kante in Tuchel’s hopes to intensify the offense but to no avail.

Weighing in on the sibject, seasoned soccer pundit Gary Neville stressed that Tuchel “should’ve changed” his strategy on the 20th or 25th minute mark. Hence, he could’ve had enough time to figure things out and not let Manchester City gain enough “confidence.”

“I thought Chelsea should’ve changed it,” Neville said on his own Sky Sports podcast. “I thought Tuchel – he is one of the bravest managers in the last 12 months in what he’s done – I just thought when it wasn’t working with the two up top and three in midfield, it was quite clear City were getting far too much joy.

“I thought he might have changed it after 20, 25 minutes,” he added. “Then he obviously let it go and I thought it gave [Manchester] City so much confidence.”

Reflecting on the team’s first defeat, Tuchel admitted that everything was “not good” and they will “look into it” to figure out what are the things they need to work on moving forward.

“We are together in this so we need the best level from the coach and the best level from the players and we will look into it now with all the self-reflection that is needed,” Tuchel said post-game via Football.london. “Our decision making, our passing, our dribbling was not good enough to win.”
