The Chicago Bears had another brutal season, missing the playoffs with a losing record of 6-11. The franchise has already made a few huge moves this offseason by firing head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace.

As Chicago moves forward in preparation for the upcoming season, they are on the hunt for new management, coaching talent, and players. Of course, cap space and picks in the draft aren’t going to help the Bears find their next general manager or head coach. However, there are a lot of gaps in the Bears’ 53-man roster that they need to fill in order to have a winning record next season. Here are the top three free agents that the Bears should consider for the 2022 NFL Offseason.

Bears Free Agent Targets for 2022 NFL Offseason

3. Mike Williams – Wide receiver

Justin Fields didn’t have the best season, but it can’t all be blamed on him. Of course, his coaching staff was less than spectacular, and he didn’t have the most reliable receivers, either. In order for the Bears to see Fields’ true potential, they need to give him at least one solid wide receiver.

This is where Mike Williams comes into play. He is a free agent coming from the Los Angeles Chargers, and brings a lot of skills to the field. Most notably, Williams is capable of winning contested catches. This is important for a team that is building around a young quarterback, because inexperienced quarterbacks are more prone to inaccurate passes. Williams would be a great addition to the Bears’ offense, and he could make Fields’ mistakes turn into “happy accidents.”

2. Brandon Scherff – Offensive Lineman

Going along with the first pick, an offensive lineman would greatly benefit the Bears’ offense. Brandon Scherff, a free agent from the Washington Football Team, would be the perfect addition to the Bears’ offensive line. According to Pro Football Focus, his main strengths are zone blocking and reliability in pass protection, which is crucial for teams who are in the middle of rebuilding.

1. Emmanuel Ogbah – Defensive End

Finally, the Bears are going to need reinforcements on defense next season. According to Bears Wire, Chicago will most likely be without two of their top defensive ends next year. Akiem Hicks is “unlikely to return to Chicago next season” and “Bilal Nichols also a free agent.” These are two major components of their starting lineup, and free agent Emmanuel Ogbah could fill one of these vacancies.

Ogbah is a free agent from the Miami Dolphins. The defensive end is known for his block recognition in the run game and ability to rush the passer from the inside and the edge, per Pro Football Focus.

The Bears also have a few picks in the 2022 NFL Draft: one in the second round, one in the third, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth. Capitalizing on talent in the draft would be a great way for the Bears to fill the second hole in their defense.
