The Kansas City Chiefs made quite splash with the addition of linebacker Terrell Suggs. He has since revealed some of the details that went into making the decision.

There were rumors that Suggs would not be reporting to just any team that picked him up off the waiver wire. He says head coach Andy Reid assured him that he would be a fit in their defense, via Adam Teicher of ESPN.com:

Suggs has reported to the team and head coach Andy Reid said on Wednesday that there was a conversation between him and Suggs before that happened. Reid said “it wasn’t a recruiting-type situation” and Suggs shed some light on the big question he had for the coach.

“I asked coach ‘I just learned the hard way that a player like me just [doesn’t] fit in anywhere.’ He was like ‘Trust me, you’ll fit in here,'” Suggs said.

The fact that Reid was able to convince Suggs to come on board ahead of the playoffs is certainly an encouraging sign regarding the state of the franchise. Reports had indicated that the veteran would only consider joining the Baltimore Ravens after he was cut by Arizona. Fortunately, it seems not even the prospect of joining his former team was enough to sway him from an opportunity in Kansas City.

Suggs will now be joining a bonafide AFC contender following a lackluster year with the Cardinals as part of the worst defensive group in the league. He will have two games to get acclimated to the Chiefs' scheme before the real test starts in the postseason.
