The Kansas City Chiefs signed Tyreek Hill to a three-year, $54 million deal on Friday. That didn't stop Andy Reid from cracking a joke about his extension with the team.

“He’s a special player; you can tell by our offense and how we use him that he’s important to the offense,” he said of Hill, per The Athletic's Nate Taylor. “It’s great to have him for a few more years here. I hope he can still run fast with all that money in his pockets.”

This offseason has been a rollercoaster ride for Hill as he was under investigation for child abuse earlier this offseason. There was an audio recording of the Chiefs wideout threatening his fiancee after Hill was accused of breaking his three-year-old son's arm.

After further investigation, the NFL decided to not suspend Hill for any wrongdoing, pointing to a “lack of evidence” as the reasoning. Hill was able to make his return to the field right before the beginning of training camp.

On the field, the speedy receiver is one of Patrick Mahomes' favorite targets in Reid's aerial offense. Last year, Hill had a career year with 87 receptions for 1,479 yards and 12 touchdowns.

With Hill's new contract, the fourth-year receiver will become one of the NFL's highest-paid players at his position. The Chiefs star is one of the fastest players in the NFL and even carries the nickname ‘Cheetah' among his counterparts.

Reid, Hill, and the Kansas City open the regular season on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the beginning of a journey they hope will end with the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
