The Kansas City Chiefs are off to a strong start to the 2018 season cruising to the wins in the first two games of the season behind the stellar play of second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

However, head coach Andy Reid has noted that things will become more difficult for Mahomes as opposing defenses get more film on him to play against him, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

“That’s the challenge,” Reid told reporters earlier this week. “As they study him, then he’ll rise up and do that. Is there going to be a hiccup here or there? Yes. There will be learning experiences going on here. Everything has not been roses up to this point. It looks like it, but that has not been the case. He has a ton of things to work on. As he goes on, there are a lot of great defensive minds in this league and they will present it to him. One advantage I think he had was he was able to work against [Chiefs defensive coordinator] Bob [Sutton] at training camp and had a lot of things thrown at him. Everyone has their flavor and you have to be able to answer it. If you don’t, you have a problem.”

Mahomes has gotten out to an impressive start to the 2018 campaign with his play under center. He has been the driving force for their offensive explosiveness in the passing game pacing them to being one of the early favorites to contend for a Super Bowl. This has seen him pass for a league record 10 touchdown passes through two weeks after he huge outing against the Pittsburgh Steelers completing 23-of-28 passes for 328 yards with six touchdowns.

It has been beyond the numbers as the 23-year-old has shown tremendous accuracy and decision making with his throws. At the same time, he has had the benefit of playing with Pro Bowl talent around him in running back Kareem Hunt, wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins, and tight end Travis Kelce. It has been a situation that bends both ways as it has proven to be an ideal match for the franchise

That said, the further the season goes along the more challenges that will be presented to him with defenses having game film to better prepare against him. Only time will tell if he can continue to be the game-changing factor under center that can lead the franchise to success.
