The AFC Conference Championship between the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots came to an underwhelming end. As a result, many are calling for the NFL to change its overtime format to allow both teams to get a shot on offense.

There is no question that the current rules benefit the first team with the ball. Although the coin did not flip in his favor, Reid is not calling for a change to the format, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

“I’ve sat in on a few of those meetings,” Reid said. “They go back and forth. It’s what the league came up with, and I support it. I sure would’ve liked to have had another crack at it though.”

“You have to be a good coin-flipper and then you have to get off the field if you don’t have the ball,” Reid said.

Reid's comments are certainly intriguing. The NFL was finally able to find a way to make it somewhat more balanced by installing the new rules nine years ago when all teams had to do was kick a field goal to win the game. It is clear that the NFL may still have a ways to go before finally getting it right.

The biggest concern regarding any changes to overtime is that it would make the games longer than what they already are. Many have suggested the league implementing college rules which starts with a first and 10 from the 25-yard-line. Although there is no question that its audience would strongly recommend it, it remains to be seen if the NFL is seriously considering making a change.
