Andy Reid knows that — to the surprise of many folks around the league — Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has not been hired to fill any of the league's recent head coaching vacancies.

Eric Bieniemy has drawn interest or interviewed with multiple teams, but has failed to land his first NFL head coaching gig, despite being one of the architects behind the best offense in football.

When asked about the topic at his press conference on Monday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid reiterated his strong feelings about Eric Bieniemy and noted the depth of his coaching skills.

Obviously, Reid believes Eric Bieniemy is ready to run an NFL team; he just hopes it's not in the Chiefs' conference.

“Everybody knows what I think of Eric (Bieniemy), and what kind of head coach I think he'd be, ” Reid said. “Maybe the best thing I could tell you is I hope he goes to the NFC when he has that opportunity. Whoever gets him is a very lucky organization.”

Reid had special praise for Eric Bieniemy's motivational and leadership skills and paid him perhaps the ultimate compliment.

“One of the few people I've come across that has the leadership skills that he has – the ability to lead men in this crazy game that we're in — and for those guys, through his leadership, to play at a Pro Bowl level. … He does wonders with athletes. And he's able to maximize their abilities on the field, and he gives them that extra boost to be a productive person off the field.

“(Eric Bieniemy is) somebody that I would love my son to have played for,” Reid added.

Of the seven teams who had a head coaching vacancy entering the offseason, five have either filled the position or seem to be close to doing so — with one minority candidate (Robert Saleh) earning a job. The Falcons, Chargers, Lions, Jets, and Jaguars all made their moves. The Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans are yet to find a new coach. Houston has reportedly requested an interview with Eric Bieniemy.
