After his team’s 31-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid publicly addressed the multi-car accident involving his son Britt Reid that left a young girl in the hospital and in critical condition.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Reid said that his heart bleeds out for everybody involved in the car crash. The crash happened on Thursday night in Kansas City, three days before the Super Bowl. As a result, Britt–who is the team's outside linebackers coach–did not travel with the Chiefs to Tampa for the game against the Buccaneers.

“My heart goes out to all those who were involved in the accident, in particular the family with the little girl who's fighting for her life,’' Andy Reid said, according to ESPN’s Adam Teicher. “I can't comment on it any more than what I am here. So the questions you have, I'm going to have to turn those down; but just from a human standpoint, my heart bleeds for everybody involved in that.”

Britt Reid admitted to authorities that he was driving the vehicle that hit two other cars in the accident, which includes a car that had two young children. A four-year-old girl suffered non-life-threatening injuries from the crash, but another girl, a five-year old, remains in the hospital.

When asked if the accident was a distraction for him or for his team heading into the game, the Chiefs head coach said that it wasn’t, as Kansas City’s game plan against the Buccaneers was already set a week before Super Bowl 55.
