The 2017 NFL Draft class has yielded two of the best starting quarterbacks in today's game, as Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson were both taken in the top 12 that year.

Mahomes went to the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 10, and Watson went 12th overall to the Houston Texans.

While both signal-callers are terrific, Mahomes definitely appears to be the better of the two, and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid says that while he likes Watson a lot, he always felt Mahomes would be the better fit in Kansas City:

“We just thought, with what we do, that Mahomes would fit in well,” said Reid, according to Adam Teicher of ESPN.com. “We had all the guys in. All the quarterbacks came in. We had an opportunity to spend six hours with each guy, and that was a great experience to have a chance to meet all the guys. Both those young men are tremendous young men. We just thought, with what we do, Mahomes would fit in the best.”

Mahomes spent his rookie campaign learning behind Alex Smith, and then, that ensuing offseason, the Chiefs traded Smith to the Washington Redskins, opening the door for Mahomes to start.

The Texas Tech product went on to have a historically dominant first season under center, throwing for 5,097 yards, 50 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 66 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 113.8, winning the NFL MVP award as a result.
