One storyline that caught a ton of media attention in the buildup to the Super Bowl 55 bout between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was the vehicular accident that involved Britt Reid, assistant coach and the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. According to a recent report, the Chiefs have decided to place Britt on administrative leave as the authorities continue to investigate his involvement in the accident.

The Chiefs came out with this statement in the wake of Reid's suspension (h/t Adam Teicher of ESPN):

“We remain in the process of gathering information on the incident, and we will continue to assist local authorities as requested. Our focus remains on Ariel Young and her family. We have reached out to the family to offer our support and resources to them during this difficult time, and we will continue to pray for her recovery.”

Britt was involved in a three-car accident several days prior to the Super Bowl. One of the other vehicles in the crash had a five-year-old girl on board, Ariel Young, who is currently in critical condition.

It is worth noting that according to reports, a Kansas City police officer stated that Britt's eyes were “bloodshot” and that he smelled of “a moderate odor of alcoholic beverages.” It was also revealed that Britt himself admitted to having “two to three drinks” and that he also took a dose of Adderall, a prescription drug used to treat ADHD.

Andy Reid stated earlier in the week that his son had undergone surgery, but provided no further details about the procedure. Britt has been away from the team since the incident and did not take part in the Chiefs' 31-9 loss on Sunday.
