Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Anthony Hitchens and the defense found a way to contain Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry in the AFC Conference Championship. He understands that tight end George Kittle will offer up a similar challenge in Super Bowl LIV.

The Chiefs managed to keep Henry from finding his momentum by holding him to just 3.6 yards per carry a couple weeks ago and it paid huge dividends for them. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, they plan to use the same approach on Kittle this time around.

“We call it ‘kill it the engine.' Most people can't run without their legs.”

Hitchens' comments are certainly understandable. Like Henry, Kittle possesses both the talent and physical skill set that make it difficult for any single defender to bring them down. A heavy dosage of either of them could wear a defense down throughout the course of the game.

The Chiefs have realized that the best way to contain these physical specimens is by not letting them find their rhythm to begin with. Of course, this may be much easier said than done when it comes to defending the pass as opposing the run.

Kansas City was allowed to take a team effort in order to keep Henry from breaking out. They will have their work cut out trying to defend him in the passing game, especially since the 49ers also boast a talented run game in their own right. Fortunately, Hitchens' comments indicate that the defense is ready to step up to the challenge.
