Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in York County, South Carolina.

According to York County Sheriff’s Office records (per ESPN), Breeland was charged with five charges, including resisting arrest, driving without a license, having alcohol in a motor vehicle with the seal broken, having an open container of beer or wine in a motor vehicle, and possession of 28 grams or less of marijuana or 10 grams of hash.

As of Tuesday night, the Breeland is still in custody and a bond has not yet been set. KCTV5 News reached out to the Chiefs for a comment, but they haven't responded yet.

“Chiefs are aware of the situation but no further comment at this time,” a PR official said.

Bashaud Breeland signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the Chiefs this offseason after a phenomenal year in which he recorded 48 combined tackles, eight passes defended, and two interceptions in 15 games.

Additionally, the 28-year-old played a vital role in the Chiefs' 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV. Breeland recorded a team-high seven tackles and one interception in the second quarter of the game

Following a standout career at Clemson University, Breeland was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. After four seasons with the Redskins, he signed with the Green Bay Packers in 2018 and then with the Chiefs in 2019. In 83 combined games for his career, the 28-year-old CB has recorded 338 combined tackles, 72 passes defended, and 12 interceptions.

Nevertheless, it will be a significant loss for the Chiefs this upcoming season if he does get suspended.
