It was an eventful offseason for Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland. Unfortunately, it appears his actions have finally caught up to him heading into the 2020 NFL season.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Breeland faces a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy:

Chiefs’ starting right cornerback Bashaud Breeland is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL policy of substances of abuse, per source.

His suspension came in response to his arrest in South Carolina back in April. Despite being charged with multiple misdemeanors, the veteran was adamant about maintaining his innocence and appealed the suspension. However, it seems it did not go through.

Breeland is now sated to miss the first four games of the 2020 campaign. This is hardly ideal for the Chiefs as they prepare to kick off the first quarter of the season against a gauntlet of tough AFC opponents that include the Houston Texans, Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots.

The fact that the defending Super Bowl champs have a target on their back following an unprecedented offseason due to the coronavirus (COVID019) pandemic only amplifies any concerns.

There were already some concerns with Kansas City's secondary following the departure of nickelback Kendall Fuller. Breeland's suspension means that they will have to rely on a bevy of unproven talent to hold their position down until he is able to make his return.

Cornerbacks Antonio Hamilton, L'Jarius Sneed, and Bopete Keyes are among those that will be battling for an increased role to start the season.
