Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes has had an impressive start this year and Hall of Famer Brett Favre has taken notice. Mahomes has already thrown for 582 yards, ten touchdowns — a new NFL record through two games — and zero interceptions. Most importantly, he has led the Chiefs to a 2-0 start and they look like a team that will be a force in the AFC.

Favre has watched closely the first two games and talked about just how impressed he has been with the young quarterback in a recent interview on Sirius XM NFL Radio.

“I think the kid will get nothing but better,” Favre said. “Now does that mean he’s going to throw eight touchdowns next week? More than likely not… there will be some downtime. He started so good he can only go down. And I don’t mean that in a negative way. But you just can’t mass-produce like that week in and week out, I don’t think. But that’s not a knock against him at all. I think he’s played outstanding, and he was drafted in the first round for a reason. They traded up for him because they thought enough of him, and I think he’s just proving they made the right decision.”

Now he has only played two games so it's probably a bit too early to call him the next Hall of Fame quarterback but he has gotten off to a strong start. Favre is right, the expectations do need to be pumped a bit because there is no way he can keep putting up the numbers that he is, and he is going to have bad games.

If he can just play consistent football and the Chiefs keep winning games, the hype is going to continue around Mahomes.
