An NFL legend called it quits on Tuesday. Running back Jamaal Charles officially announced he was hanging up his cleats, signing a one-day contract with the Kansas City Chiefs so he could retire with the team.

Charles had by far his greatest success with the Chiefs, so it's nice to see him come home and officially go out with the squad that brought him to prominence.

One Chief who knew Charles very well was Charcandrick West. West spent most of the last five seasons in Kansas City, and got the chance to learn from Charles in the running backs room.

On Tuesday, West expressed his gratitude on Twitter as news of Charles' retirement spread.

Charles faded from the spotlight the past few seasons due to injuries, so it would be easy to forget just how dominant he was for a while.

Charles was the best runner in the league during his heyday, and he'll retire as the NFL's all-time leader in yards per carry among those with at least 1,000 attempts. A third round pick out of Texas in 2008, Charles will go down as one of the best Chiefs in recent memory.

West is a free agent himself now, and is still looking for a team. He was cut by the Chiefs last August, but ended up latching back on with the team in December for their playoff run.

They've always enjoyed having him as a receiving threat, and it's possible West could end up back in the Chiefs' backfield in 2019.
