Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones set an NFL record in Thursday night's game against the Los Angeles Chargers by posting a sack for the 10th consecutive game.

Jones has played a big role in the Chiefs' ability to rack up such an impressive record this season, as he entered the game with 34 combined tackles to go along with 11.5 sacks on the year.

And his first-half sack against the Chargers helped him add to the excellent season for his team, with the third-year pro accomplishing a feat that no other player has been able to match.

From the NFL's research department:

Chris Jones is the first player in NFL history to record a sack in 10 straight games within a single season (Individual sacks have been recorded since 1982)

While the offense has gotten the majority of the attention in Kansas City, the defense may be what decides how far Andy Reid's team can in the playoffs.

The Chiefs are still allowing a lot of points on the board, but the emergence of Jones – as well as the return of safety Eric Berry – seems to have them trending in the right direction with the postseason right around the corner.

Jones and company are hoping to lock up the AFC West by scoring a win over the Chargers, and if they can do that, the next goal will be securing home-field advantage.

Following tonight's game, Kansas City will have matchups against the Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders to finish up the regular season.
