Similar to Patrick Mahomes, Chris Jones became a richer man after signing a multi-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. The stout interior defender is confident he'll be adding some hardware to his collection in 2020. In an Instagram live conversation with ESPN's Adam Schefter, Jones boldly claimed he'll win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award next season.

Earlier this offseason, the Chiefs decided to use their franchise tag on Jones, preventing him from entering free agency. As a result, Jones became disappointed in the decision and actually threatened to sit out the 2020 season if he didn't receive a new contract.

The deadline for tagged players to sign a long-term deal was July 15. While the clock was ticking down, the Chiefs were able to finalize a contract with Jones. Instead of playing under the tag, Jones will have a new four-year, $85 million extension.

Since being selected by the Chiefs with the No. 37 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Jones has evolved into one of the premier interior defenders in the NFL. The Mississippi State product has compiled a total of 24.5 sacks, 49 quarterback hits, and three forced fumbles in the past two seasons alone.

To reward him for his efforts, Jones was named to his first Pro Bowl a season ago. Of course, his biggest achievement was playing a vital role in Kansas City's path to winning the Super Bowl.

After winning his first Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs, Jones is motivated to add other accolades to his resume. Despite not being a favorite to win the award, the pass-rushing aficionado thinks he'll be the 2020 Defensive Player of the Year.
