The Kansas City Chiefs are among the teams struggling to contain the spread of COVID-19 within their ranks. Chris Jones is an example.

Kansas City announced earlier Thursday a staff member had tested positive for the virus, and the Chiefs closed the facility as a result. But the players seem to have fallen prey as well.

Field Yates of ESPN reported star defensive tackle Chris Jones was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, rendering his status unknown for this weekend's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Kansas City is still planning to play on Sunday, though the full extent of the team's outbreak remains to be seen. However, Jones is not assumed to have a positive test. Rather, this move would indicate he is a close contact.

The Chiefs enter the contest at 7-1, and are coming off a blowout victory over the New York Jets last weekend.

Patrick Mahomes and the offense still dominate the narrative, but Kanas City's defense has also held together nicely as of late.

The Chiefs limited Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills to just over 200 yards of total offense in Week 6 and held the woeful Jets to 221 this past weekend. While Kansas City gave up over 400 total yards to the Denver Broncos in Week 7, the Chiefs also forced four turnovers.

Jones has played a large role in the success, especially in the past two weeks. The 26-year-old had five combined quarterback hits in that span, constantly getting into the face of opposing quarterbacks and forcing hurried decisions.

The Chiefs will hope Jones will be eligible to play and cause more chaos — but the right kind of chaos — on Sunday.
