The Kansas City Chiefs made waves when they signed franchise quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a historic record-breaking contract and it seems like they aren't done just yet.

NFL media's Ian Rapoport reported that the Chiefs and star defensive tackle Chris Jones are on the verge of agreeing on a new contract. Although nothing is final, Rapoport shared in a post on his Twitter account that sources said the new extension would be worth “big-money” if it happens.

He would follow things up with confirmation subsequent tweet. Here, the NFL Insider mentioned that he was told the two parties have  negotiated a possible four-year deal for the Chiefs' defensive star.

Rapoport added that the Kansas City organization and Jones' agents, the Katz Bros, have had talks the past couple of days and it's no surprise they've come to an agreement. As per Rapoport, the deal is estimated to be worth $85 million with $60 million guaranteed to Jones upon signing.

Just last week, the Chiefs signed Patrick Mahomes to a record $503 million, 10-year contract extension that sent shockwaves throughout the pro sports world. Even in a down year due to the pandemic, Kansas City was not afraid to lock up their franchise cornerstone and now with the Chris Jones extension, it looks like they are adamant in securing another key piece from their successful Super Bowl team.

Jones was drafted 37th overall by the Chiefs in 2016 and has been a vital cog in their defense totaling 136 tackles and 33 sacks in his first four regular seasons in Kansas City.
