Chris Jones made a late appearance on the Kansas City Chiefs' injury report after suffering an injury in practice on Thursday. It will likely prevent him from playing on Sunday. According to James Palmer, Jones is not expected to play versus the Houston Texans.

During Thursday's team practice, Jones sustained a calf injury that sidelined him for the rest of the practice. The Chiefs inserted the talented defensive tackle on the team's injury report and listed him as questionable for Sunday.

Kansas City was eager to see how Jones moved around during pregame warmups to decided whether or not he could play. While they were optimistic that he could suit up, Jones didn't show enough for the Chiefs to be comfortable playing him.

The absence of Chris Jones could be detrimental to Kansas City's defense that played better down the final stretch of the season. The last time the Texans and Chiefs played in Week 6, the Pro-Bowl interior defender was inactive due to a groin injury.

Back in Week 6, Houston was able to gash Kansas City's defense for 192 rushing yards in a 31-24 victory. One of the reasons why they had so much success running the ball was because of Chris Jones being on the sideline for the Chiefs.

Despite his groin ailment, Chris Jones — the former second-round pick — totaled nine sacks, eight tackles for loss, 20 quarterback hits, and a forced fumble. Just a year ago, Jones led the team with 15.5 sacks and 29 quarterback hits.

With Chris Jones expected to be out on Sunday, rookie Khalen Saunders will likely draw the start alongside Derrick Nnadi. Saunders tallied 22 tackles, one sack, and two quarterback hits in his first season in the NFL.
