Clyde Edwards-Helaire had to be helped off the field with an apparent leg injury in the fourth quarter of the Kansas City Chiefs' game against the New Orleans Saints.

Le'Veon Bell will have to fill the void in the running game for the Chiefs.

There is no word on what the injury is or how severe it is, but the lack of Edwards-Helaire could be a vital one. Edwards-Helaire has been one of the best rookies in the league this season and has been a crucial addition to the Chiefs' dynamic offense.

While primarily a passing attack, leading the league in passing offense, having the threat of Edwards-Helaire, along with Mahomes and Bell, has been a big help for the Chiefs.

Without Edwards-Helaire the Chiefs will have to rely on Bell for a running attack and to keep defenses honest for however long Edwards-Helaire is out for.

Both the Chiefs organization and Chiefs fans hope the injury is not severe and Edwards-Helaire will be back on the field sooner rather than later. Updates will be made as they become available.

The Chiefs are looking to repeat as Super Bowl champions. One of the few areas that Kansas City was not the strongest was the running game, but even without a strong running back they were still able to win it all. Mahomes will be able to keep Kansas City running for however long Edwards-Helaire will be out, and the addition of Bell, who joined the team earlier this season, will be even more valuable than he has been at any other point this season.

Kansas City did win the game, 32-29, to maintain their position as the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Since the top seed is the only seeding position which confers a wild card bye in the playoffs, getting that week off could make the difference between Edwards-Helaire playing in the team's first playoff game, and having to sit out. That's speculation, since Edwards-Helaire's recovery timetable isn't yet known. It is, however, very much worth noting as the playoffs approach.
