Kansas City Chiefs rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire could well be available for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills.

Edwards-Helaire missed last weekend's win over the Cleveland Browns due to a high-ankle sprain, but he was among the participants in Wednesday's practice.

Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star reported Edwards-Helaire, Patrick Mahomes, and Sammy Watkins all practiced Wednesday. However, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid noted Thursday is the more important day.

Mahomes' situation in particular is sure to get plenty of scrutiny.

The Chiefs quarterback remains in concussion protocol after suffering a tweaked nerve in his neck against the Browns. Mahomes did some light work on Wednesday, which bodes well for his progression to active status. Edwards-Helaire's availability could be quite consequential, as well.

The Bills held the NFL's top rushing team, the Baltimore Ravens, to just over 4.6 yards per carry during the Divisional Playoff between the two squads. That's a win, considering the Ravens averaged 5.5 yards per attempt during the regular season.

But Buffalo gave up 4.6 yards per carry during the regular season, and the Chiefs might have a bit of a balanced attack in moving the ball while keeping the Bills offense off the field.

Edwards-Helaire rushed for 803 yards on 4.4 yards per carry in 13 games during the regular season. He was also a capable pass-catcher out of the backfield, hauling in 36 receptions for 297 yards.

Darrel Williams ran the ball well for Kansas City against the Browns. Still, Edwards-Helaire is the more dynamic threat out of the backfield. The Chiefs would be glad to have him on the field Sunday, especially in the event Mahomes cannot play.
