The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off their first loss of the season after falling short to the New England Patriots 43-40 last Sunday night.

The Chiefs have lined up another crucial matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7, which appears that they will be without the services of defensive end Justin Houston and safety Eric Berry, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.

The Chiefs don’t expect to have safety Eric Berry or outside linebacker Justin Houston on Sunday against the Bengals. The team lists both as doubtful.

Kansas City has had one of the league's worst defenses that have struggled to defend against practically every opponent that they have faced this season. They currently rank last overall and against the pass along with being 28th against the run while allowing 28.7 points per game. The absence of these two key contributors has played a major factor in their issues on that side of the field.

Houston has already missed last game due to a hamstring injury that is expected to keep him off the field for the next few weeks. He has been a highly dependable asset along their front seven throughout his career that had seen him get off to solid start recording 3.0 sacks in the first five games played. In fact, Houston is currently sitting fourth all-time in Chiefs history with 72.5 sacks that have spoken to his high level of play and consistency on the field in first eight seasons in the NFL.

Meanwhile, Berry has yet to play in any games this season as he yet to take the practice field over the last couple of months due to a nagging problem with his heel on his surgically-repaired Achilles tendon. He is dealing with a deformity in the area that has proven to be quite bothersome that hasn't given him a timetable for a return. What this all means is that the Chiefs will continue to heavily lean on their offense against the Bengals on Sunday afternoon.
