The Kansas City Chiefs are having immense problems on defense, and they could certainly use a boost in their secondary unity, though, that’s unlikely to come from safety Eric Berry, who missed practice on Thursday, according to James Palmer of the NFL Network.

Berry hasn’t played since Week 1 of the 2017 season, as he tries to recuperate from a surgery that repaired his Achilles injury but should be able to make a return to this field. However, Berry is seemingly going to extend his absence past Week 3’s meeting with the San Francisco 49ers this coming Sunday at home.

The Chiefs are sorely missing Berry’s help, especially in their passing defense. The team is ranked last in total defense and against the pass with 508.0 total yards and 430.0 passing yards allowed per game. Kansas City is also allowing opponents 32.5 points per game this season, fourth worst in the NFL, so far this season.

For the 49ers, Berry’s absence should make quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s job of dissecting the Chiefs’ porous stop unit. For the Chiefs, they will have to rely once again on their explosive offense to negate the points they are going to give up to San Francisco. The Chiefs are the highest scoring in the league with 40.0 points per game average.

Eric Berry signed a six-year deal worth $78 million with Kansas City last year.
