Patrick Mahomes has officially signed his 10-year extension with the Kansas City Chiefs, giving him the richest and longest contract in the NFL. In an attempt to show the peculiar nature of Mahomes' extension, ESPN's Adam Schefter compared the length of his contract to other stars in the NFL.

Earlier this offseason, Christian McCaffrey signed a lucrative four-year extension with the Carolina Panthers. As a result, he becomes the highest-paid running back and is under contract through 2025. However, despite McCaffrey's lengthy deal, his contract will expire five years before Patrick Mahomes' new contract.

On the other hand, Ezekiel Elliott signed a six-year, $90 million extension with the Dallas Cowboys before the 2019 season began. The dual-threat running back will see his current deal with the Cowboys expire five years before Mahomes.

We've seen quarterbacks over the years garner 10-year contracts from their respective teams. Guys like Brett Favre and Donovan McNabb were among the last players in the NFL to receive 10-year deals. But with Patrick Mahomes cementing himself as the top quarterback in the NFL, the Chiefs don't see any reason not to keep Mahomes around for another 10 seasons.

Even though he signed his extension on Monday, Mahomes still has two years remaining on his rookie contract. With that being said, his historic extension will give him $477.6 million over the next 12 years.

Besides becoming the richest player in NFL history, Mahomes surpasses Mike Trout as the highest-paid player in sports history. It's safe to say that everyone is going to be waiting until 2032 to see if they can convince Mahomes to sign with them in free agency.
