This upcoming weekend, the Kansas City Chiefs will face Jason McCourty and the New England Patriots in the AFC championship game.

The Patriots have Tom Brady. The Chiefs have their upstart sophomore quarterback Patrick Mahomes. It will be a quarterback duel like we've never seen. A potential passing of the torch of sorts. Mahomes will likely win the league MVP. He is the NFL's rising star, and everyone has noticed.

Patriots defensive back Jason McCourty even spoke of Mahomes talent, and is more than surprised by his ability:

McCourty told NBC Sports:

“Man, I can’t say I have and it’s amazing. You turn the film on, you’ll see him throw with his left hand and you’ll see him roll out to the right and throw the ball back across the middle to the other side of the field and you’ll just be like, ‘How does he do it?’… He’s doing it at a high success rate so I think you really haven’t seen a guy — I haven’t played against a guy that does this so many times and really doesn’t make mistakes… He’s a guy that’s really good at his craft.”

McCourty has been in the league for just about a decade and has seen good quarterbacks come and go. For him to give such high praise of a young quarterback is quite the compliment. McCourty's ball-hawking skills are well-documented. In his preparation for the game, he likely saw how good Mahomes can be.

The winner of the AFC championship will go on to play the winner of the Rams and Saints in the Super Bowl.
