The Kansas City Chiefs are off to a strong start out of the gate to the 2018 season earning wins in each of their first five games played.

The Chiefs' defense has taken a major hit with the loss of Pro Bowl outside linebacker Justin Houston to a hamstring injury that will keep him out of the lineup for the next few weeks, via Austin Knoblauch of NFL.com.

The veteran linebacker is dealing with a hamstring injury that could knock him out for a few weeks, a source informed of the injury told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. The injury — at the very least — puts his availability for Sunday in danger, Garafolo reported.

This is a significant blow to their front seven with one of their best pass rushers as he has recorded 3.0 sacks in the first six games played.  Houston has been a strong asset up front with his consistent production and effectiveness over his career as one of the premier pass rushers that has been one of their main anchors to their defense. He is currently fourth all-time in Chiefs history with 72.5 sacks.

Although the Chiefs have had their fair shares of struggles against the pass this season being last in the league, they are tied for sixth with 15 sacks through the first five games played. The loss of Houston will now shift the pass rushing responsibility over to defensive ends Dee Ford and Allen Bailey, who each respectively have 4.0 sacks on the season. Kansas City could see their defense struggle a bit more than usual with their secondary taking up more work due to the lack of pressure on the opposing quarterback.

This is a situation that the Chiefs will continue to monitor in the coming weeks to get a better determination of how long he will be out of action..
