Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Keith Reaser has suffered a torn Achilles, coach Andy Reid announced after practice on Monday.

Initial reports from practice were that Reaser was competing in 11-on-11 drills with the rest of the team when he went down to the ground.

He was unable to put any weight on the leg and later left the field on a cart. If the injury is confirmed to be an Achilles he will be placed on injured reserve and be lost for the season.

Reaser wasn't a lock to make Kansas City's roster,  but he entered training camp in strong position to earn the fourth-string cornerback spot behind Kendall Fuller, Bashaud Breeland, and Charvarius Ward.

Last season he suffered a quad injury during training camp that forced the team to cut him with an injury settlement. He played this spring in the AAF and was a standout which helped him get another chance with the Chiefs.

“It was unfortunate he had that quad injury last year,” Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said of Reaser when he was signed this past February, via ArrowheadPride. “I think he was a guy that was probably going to make our 90-man roster. He was a guy that we liked coming out of Florida Atlantic and he got hurt, didn’t go to the combine, and those guys are a little bit tricky in the draft because you don’t know if they’re going to get drafted at all or how late they’ll fall and putting a value on those guys is sometimes difficult.”

Losing Reaser is a blow to the Chiefs secondary that is already considered thin.
