Damien Wilson is joining the Kansas City Chiefs.. The Chiefs are expected to sign the linebacker from the Cowboys.

Wilson was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth-round of the 2015 draft. He is now with the Chiefs. In his four seasons with the team, he has 121 career tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. He played in every NFL regular season game of his career (64) and made 22 starts. He's had major roles on both special teams and the defense.

He did not have a good 2018 season. He was near the bottom of Pro Football Focus rankings for linebackers with 44.7 overall grade. He has limitations in coverage and is not an every-down linebacker. His teammates, Leighton Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith, were ranked fourth and sixth respectively.

With the Chiefs expected to switch from a 3-4 to a 4-3 scheme under new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Wilson should fit in the defense. He played weak-side linebacker in the Cowboys 4-3 scheme but is projected to play strong-side in Kansas City.

The Chiefs' defense allowed the second-most yards in the NFL last season, struggling to defend the pass and stuff the run. Wilson's experience in a 4-3 defensive scheme should help improve those statistics.

He'll be joining former Cowboy Anthony Hitchens, and Reggie Ragland as a potential starter for the Chiefs in 2019.

Whether he will be a starter or just a depth player, the Chiefs will need all the defensive players they can get. They signed Tyrann Mathieu to a three-year $42 million contract to pair up with Eric Berry. There's no doubt that they are doing everything they can to improve their defense.
