Despite being listed as active for their Week 6 game against the Buffalo Bills on Monday, new Kansas City Chiefs running back Le’Veon Bell will not be playing due to extensive testing for COVID-19 before he can join his new team.

The 28-year old Bell, who was acquired by the Chiefs after he was released by the New York Jets, has to pass five COVID-19 tests over consecutive days and will not be allowed to practice with the defending Super Bowl champions until Wednesday, ruling him out for Monday’s game.

But that hasn’t prevented both sides from planning to keep the three-time Pro Bowler up to speed regarding his role in the Chiefs’ offense.

According to Peter Schrager of Fox Sports, the Chiefs have already been coaching Bell virtually before he even joins practice, with the team’s assistant coaches communicating with the star running back via Zoom.

Bell had previously asked to be traded from the Jets after the team’s dismal 0-5 start to the season. In his two games with New York this season, he had 19 carries for 74 rushing yards and three receptions and 39 receiving yards. After the Jets' Week 5 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Bell liked a few tweets from media members regarding his limited role in coach Adam Gase’s offense, which hinted at his desire to play for a different team.

Bell, a two-time First Team All Pro and one-time Second Team All-Pro while with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is expected to join Chiefs rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the backfield, giving quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a talented Kansas City offense more weapons as they look to defend their title.
