The Kansas City Chiefs are set at quarterback for the foreseeable future, and they've chosen who their backup for Patrick Mahomes will be in 2020. Amid all of the shocking moves to happen on Thursday, Kansas City is re-signing Chad Henne.

Rather than bring back Matt Moore, who started in place of Mahomes for two games in 2019, the Chiefs have chosen to retain Henne instead. Due to the success that Moore showed this past season, Kansas City expects him to have a decent market in free agency.

Therefore, the Chiefs are electing to go with the cheaper option to be the backup to Mahomes. This isn't the first time that Kansas City chose to sign Henne over Moore.

Prior to the 2018 season, the Chiefs signed Henne to join the roster while Moore was also an option for them. Nevertheless, just this past season, Moore joined Henne after sitting out the entire 2018 campaign. In his two seasons in Kansas City, Henne has thrown just three passes, completing two of them for 29 yards.

Just this past season, Henne sustained an ankle injury in the preseason that sidelined him for the majority of the season. Following his return from injury, the veteran signal-caller appeared in just one game in the postseason due to Moore being sick.

Of course, the Chiefs are hoping that Henne won't need to make an appearance in 2020 unless the team is resting players at the end of the season. At the least, if Mahomes has to miss time, Kansas City has someone with experience in Andy Reid's offense.
