According to a tweet this afternoon from the Kansas Chiefs, the team officially released veteran cornerback Darrelle Revis after he appeared in just six games this season.

The seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback sat out for most of the 2017 season after he remained unsigned, only to have the Chiefs take a shot on him with a two-year, $11 million deal back in November.

In an article published last month by Chiefs beat writer Adam Teicher of ESPN, Revis expressed a desire to play during the 2018 season, saying he will be ready if that opportunity is given to him by an NFL team.

“You never know with these things,” Revis said. “Rosters always change. Even if we went the distance and won the Super Bowl, that team changes as well. I understand the situation. I'm always optimistic about these things. I'm just being optimistic and if the opportunity presents itself, you take the opportunity.”

With the Chiefs trading quarterback Alex Smith for cornerback Kendall Fuller and now releasing Revis, ESPN's Field Yates reports that Kansas City has opened up $21.5 million in cap space.

As for his brief stint in Kansas City, the cornerback admits he could have done better while adding that, overall, he's pretty happy with his performance.

“The material I put on [videotape] from the little time I had, not going through training camp and being here for the installs, I was OK,” Revis said. “I wasn't great or my best ever. No way. But at the same time, for what I came in here and was asked to do, for the most part I'm happy with it.”

In five regular season games and one postseason game for the Chiefs this season, Revis recorded 14 tackles and made two pass deflections.
