The regular season is quickly approaching with teams around the league making personnel decisions ahead of Week 1 action next month.

According to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network, the Kansas City Chiefs decided to part ways with veteran running back Charchandrick West on Wednesday morning.

West has spent the first four seasons of his career with the franchise, carving out a consistent role out of the backfield. However, he had seen that decrease significantly last year with the arrival of standout rookie Kareem Hunt, who put together a stellar 2017 campaign that saw him lead the league in rushing and win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. West was limited to just 18 carries for 72 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns along with 27 receptions for 150 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Prior to Hunt's arrival, the 27-year-old stepped into a prominent role in the running game in 2015, leading the team in rushing with 634 yards. However, he was unable to truly capitalize on that production, as he struggled to get a grip hold on the starting job in the 2016 season before the Chiefs parted ways with longtime star running back Jamaal Charles and brought aboard Hunt. On top of all that, West has struggled to stay on the practice field in training camp due to a concussion, leading to the team bringing aboard former Miami Dolphins running back Damien Williams.

West is now on the open market just two weeks ahead of the start of the 2018 regular season, giving him plenty of time to latch onto another team. West has shown he can be an effective option out of the backfield when given the chance to play.
