The Kansas City Chiefs have signed rookie wide receiver Mecole Hardman to a four-year deal.

Rotoworld confirmed Hardman's signing on May 4. The website also noted Hardman could emerge as the Chiefs' No. 2 wide receiver behind Sammy Watkins.

The Chiefs traded up to land Hardman – the fastest receiver at the Combine. With Tyreek Hill's looming suspension, he's in a potential blow-up spot as the likely No. 2 option behind Sammy Watkins.

Hardman's development is going to be one of the bigger training camp storylines.

The Chiefs selected Hardman 56th out of the University of Georgia (they traded up with the Los Angeles Rams). Hardman and Hill share the same attributes (they're both fast wide receivers and kick return specialists).

However, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told The Kansas City Star's Blair Kerkhoff on April 27 the team didn't foresee him as Hill's potential replacement when they drafted him. The Chiefs just played the cards the draft dealt them with.

Reid also marveled at Hardman's abilities as a wide receiver and kick return specialist. More specifically, he told Kerkhoff he likes his strength and ability to break tackles.

For his part, Hardman likes the thought of joining forces with 2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, per The Kansas City Star.

Just watching him play, seeing the things he did…I'm grateful to be in that situation and I'm looking forward to work with and get the chemistry going.

Hardman should make an immediate impact in Kansas City. While it's far too early to hail him as the next Dante Hall, he should become another reliable weapon in Mahomes' impressive arsenal.
