Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is expected to play on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. NFL Network reporter James Palmer tweeted the news Saturday afternoon.

Edwards-Helaire hasn't played since Week 5's home game against the Buffalo Bills. The running back sustained an MCL sprain (knee) in the third quarter and was put on injured reserve shortly after.

If the second-year running back is activated to play for Sunday afternoon's game against the Cowboys, it would be a huge offensive advantage. The third year for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes hasn't been everything he and Andy Reid wanted. They finished 12-4 in the regular season the year they won the championship and 14-2 last season.

Kansas City has seemed to take a little more control over their season recently with a three game winning streak. However, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys are a force to be reckoned with as number one in the NFC East. Having a health Edwards-Helaire in the lineup Sunday would recreate great offensive opportunities for the Chiefs to extend their winning streak.

The running back has picked up 304 rushing yards on 65 attempts in just five games so far this season. He has also recorded 10 first downs for the Chiefs. Being able to force first downs and carry the ball down the field is going to be a major factor in the Chiefs game Sunday afternoon.
