The moment Kansas City Chiefs left guard Kelechi Osemele fell in the first quarter in their Week 5 game against the Las Vegas Raiders, many initially believed it was a serious injury. Moments after the game, head coach Andy Reid announced that the 31-year old had torn tendons in both of his knees. With the severity of the injury, Nate Taylor of The Athletic is reporting that Osemele's season is likely over.

This is certainly devastating news for the Chiefs.

As bad as it sounds, however, this isn't much of a surprising development. Osemele knees buckled on a non-contact play. The two-time Pro Bowler immediately called for help and needed to be wheeled out of the field.

Mike Remmers filled in for Osemele following the devastating injury. It's likely that Kansas City will field in the 31-year old to replace Osemele in the starting line-up.

This must be such a bummer for Osemele himself. Prior to the injury, the one-time Super Bowl champ was having great start to his 2020 campaign. Osemele signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs this off-season. He has provided Kansas City with much needed strength and toughness up front. Now, the Chiefs will need to find a replacement for their 6-foot-5 mauler.

Osemele had hoped to complete a bounce back campaign after a year of turmoil with the New York Jets, which acquired him in the 2019 off-season. The former 2nd round pick had suffered a shoulder injury and pushed for surgery. However, the Jets did not approve the surgery. After Osemele went under the knife, the Jets released him in late October of last year.
