Although the Kansas City Chiefs managed to end their two-game skid with a win over the Denver Broncos, it cost them significantly after quarterback Patrick Mahomes was forced to exit the game with a knee injury.

Mahomes suffered a dislocated knee cap on a play that did not garner much momentum for physical contact. Guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif admits those that were on the field at the time were just as surprised, via ESPN's Adam Teicher:

”He was saying, ‘It’s out, it’s out.’ Nobody really understood what he meant at that time and then we saw it.”

Duvernay-Tardif was not the only one that was perplexed by what had happened. Even head coach Andy Reid was admittedly surprised to see he ha sustained such an injury on a quarterback sneak. Cameras were able to capture the moment that Mahomes had his kneecap put back in place by team doctors. He was helped to the sideline before he managed to walk to the locker room under his own power.

While the scene may have initially been gruesome, there have been encouraging reports regarding the severity of Mahomes' injury. However, his potential absence could deal a devastating blow to this Chiefs' offense for the time being.

Mahomes was able to get back on track prior to the injury by completing 10-of-11 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. If the reigning MVP is forced to miss any time, Kansas City will have to rely on backup quarterback Matt Moore. Moore did a serviceable job taking over after completing 10-of-19 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown.
