LeSean McCoy could be playing in his first Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs, but he may not get a chance to suit up. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, McCoy could be inactive for Super Bowl 54 versus the San Francisco 49ers.

Before the season began, the Chiefs signed McCoy following his release from the Buffalo Bills. The veteran running back previously spent time with Andy Reid when Reid was the head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles.

But as the season progressed, McCoy began to see his role within the offense diminish. Over the first eight weeks, McCoy carried the ball 69 times for 362 yards and two scores. Then, down the final stretch of the season, Kansas City made McCoy a healthy scratch in three games.

While McCoy took a backseat in the backfield, Damien Williams assumed most of the workload. In the playoffs, Williams has been a crucial player for the Chiefs as he's totaled 157 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns.

As a result of McCoy likely being inactive, Kansas City is going to name just two running backs active on Sunday. Aside from Williams and McCoy, Darwin Thompson is the only other running back that is healthy.

In addition, the move to make McCoy inactive appears to be a move to allow the Chiefs to add depth along the defensive line. The Chiefs want to make sure they have a formidable group of pass rushers to send at Jimmy Garoppolo.

Many fans were excited to see McCoy finally reach a Super Bowl in his career. However, Kansas City believes it is best for McCoy to sit out in favor of another player on the roster.
