The Kansas City Chiefs don't need a consistent running game to put up points. Reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes and his host of pass-catching weapons made that abundantly clear in Week 2, when they hung 278 passing yards and four touchdowns on the Oakland Raiders in the second quarter alone. But if the Chiefs want to avenge last season's heartbreaking loss in the AFC Championship game, the ability to churn out yards on the ground will almost certainly come in handy.

Fortunately for Kansas City, ahead of its toughest test of the young 2019 season, veteran running back LeSean McCoy returned to practice and appears on track to play in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens.

McCoy didn't practice with the Chiefs on Wednesday, but participated in a limited capacity 24 hours later. He's still dealing with pain from the ankle sprain he suffered late in Kansas City's 28-10 win over the Raiders on Sunday. Fellow running back Damien Williams, who's splitting time in the backfield with McCoy, remained sidelined on Thursday by a knee injury.

LeSean McCoy has yet to make a major impact for the Chiefs after signing with them shortly following his release by the Buffalo Bills before the regular season. He has 21 rushes for 104 yards thus far, leading his new team in yardage, but has yet to find the end zone and managed just 23 yards on 11 carries in Week 2. Williams hasn't been able to get going as a runner, either, beset by the inability of Kansas City's offensive line to get a consistent push at the point of attack.
