In the two days since the Kansas City Chiefs traded Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins, analysts have debated and argued about who won the deal. Some of these writers and fans believe the Redskins gave up far too much to acquire the veteran signal caller. Others felt it was a savvy, and necessary, move from Washington's point of view with starting quarterback Kirk Cousins unlikely to agree to a long-term deal.

Apparently, Madden agrees with the former.

As you likely know, Kansas City received cornerback Kendall Fuller and a third-round pick in return for Smith. The Chiefs have struggled to fill their second cornerback spot opposite of Marcus Peters, so Fuller should fit in quite well, and the third-round pick should yield another impactful contributor.

A user on SB Nation's Chiefs website Arrowhead Pride attempted to make the trade in the EA Sports video game while using Kansas City. Not only was it turned down by the Redskins, but the Chiefs had to give up their own third-round pick and a future sixth-rounder, in addition to Smith, just to get Fuller.

The Chiefs had the flexibility to let go of their starting quarterback thanks to the intrigue and optimism regarding their 2017 first-round pick, Patrick Mahomes. The Texas Tech product shined in the preseason and during his first career start against the Denver Broncos in Week 17. Mahomes passed for 284 yards at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, eventually leading Kansas City down the field for the game-winning field goal with under three minutes to go.
