Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is ready to show that his MVP campaign in 2018 was no fluke. It appears he has made quite the believer out of bettors in Las Vegas as well.

Mahomes burst onto the scene by winning the award in only his first year as a starter. SuperBookUSA has him as the favorite to win MVP again, via John Murray on Twitter.

The fact that Mahomes is currently pegged as the frontrunner should hardly come as any surprise. The Chiefs took a patient approach with his development and are now reaping the benefits after winning MVP in just his second year in the NFL. Considering the job Kansas City has done surrounding him with a strong supporting cast, there is good reason to believe he can defend his crown.

The last player to win back-to-back MVP awards was Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning in 2003-04. Like Manning, Mahomes is a stellar young talent on a team that has established itself as a bonafide contender in the AFC. His individual numbers helped alleviate the Chiefs' porous defense to lead them to the conference championship last season. Mahomes' production paired with the team's success make him a safe bet to repeat.

Regardless, it is safe to say that the 23-year-old is more concerned with getting his team to the Super Bowl. There are several AFC quarterbacks looking to do the same that have also emerged as potential candidates to win MVP such as Andrew Luck with the Colts and Philip Rivers with the Los Angeles Chargers. Meanwhile, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will continue to serve as Patrick Mahomes' biggest challenge moving forward.
