The Jacksonville Jaguars made a splash with the lucrative signing of quarterback Nick Foles. It is an outcome that likely would not have been possible without his year as a backup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Foles spent the 2016 campaign as the No. 2 behind quarterback Alex Smith. According to ESPN's Adam Teicher, he admits it was during that time that he found his passion for football once again.

“I wouldn't still be playing football without that season with the Chiefs. Going there and being with people that actually cared about me as a person more so than as a football player … it provided me the love and the joy of the game again.”

The former third-round pick enjoyed a breakout year in 2013 with the Philadelphia Eagles when he took the league by storm and earned Pro Bowl honors. Unfortunately, he was unable to replicate his success the following season and was ultimately traded to the then-St. Louis Rams.

Foles' endured a rough season as the starter for the Rams and their decision to take quarterback Jared Goff with the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft even had him contemplating retirement after the team granted his request to be released. It is safe to say that he has since enjoyed quite the resurgence as a former Super Bowl MVP and now as a franchise quarterback in Jacksonville.

Foles' journey is telling what of the majority of the players in the league go through on a yearly basis. Fortunately, it appears to be one that has made him stronger because of it.
